I love Pixar. Love it. And one of my favorite of the Pixars (and it only wins by a very small margin) is Finding Nemo. If you haven't seen the movie (where have you been all this time?), you might not want to keep reading - major spoilers.
However, there's this one thing about this remarkable story that has bugged me. It concerns a certain pelican named Nigel. Remember him? He's the kind-hearted pelican that talks dentist talk with the tank fish and ends up finding Marlin and bringing him to Nemo.
Stop right there. What about that scene where Marlin and Nemo 'reunite'? No, I'm not talking about the real reunion - I'm talking about the part where Marlin and Dory are riding inside Nigel's mouth (that sounds so weird) and they see Nemo 'belly-up' (ie, dead). Right there - Nigel sees it too.
Of course Nigel and the two fish leave before Nemo 'wakes' and so they don't know until later that Nemo was alright all along.
Hold it right there - that's the thing that bugs me. What about Nigel?
By what the movie shows us (and I'm assuming the credits too, though I haven't watched the animation that plays over them for a long time), Nigel never knows that Nemo was alive and that he and Marlin reunited. For him it was "I'm... I'm so sorry. Truly I am." And he flies off. Does he ever get to know that his help is what brought Marlin and Nemo together again, however indirectly? In the 'epilogue' of the movie where fish show up (Bruce and the sharks, Dory, etc), Nigel never does (of course, he couldn't get underwater). But still.
It just annoys me.
I want happy endings for EVERYONE!! </whine>
Yeah.
